Mental Illness
Researchers found that illness not only affects the person, but it also affects family members in areas such as work, leisure, health, and social relationships.

Family psycho-education is one of six evidence-based practices endorsed by the Center for Mental Health Services for individuals suffering from chronic mental illnesses (Casañas, et al, 2012).

The main goal in working with women is to help them develop the knowledge and skills necessary to promote the healing of self and their family member (Casanas, et al., Lucksted, McFarlane, Downing, & Dixon, 2012).

This psycho-education will be a specific treatment that combines education about mental illness, family support, crisis intervention, effective communication strategies, and problem-solving training.

Psychoeducation communicates current understanding of illnesses from biological, psychological, social and spiritual perspectives.

Identity reformation is defined by you. In some instances you may identify with trauma, past experiences, labels, etc... . In other cases identity is questioned based on “Who am I, what is my purpose and how do I become that person?” Buckley-Walker, Crowe, & Caputi, said being a different person implies redefining identity, but becoming a better person implies growth in identity (2010).

Identity reformation in this model encompasses both growth and redefinition. The idea of self-identity is expressed in terms of seeing yourself as other than a person with issues. Growth in identity will begin with learning about one-self and then build on strengths.

Spiritual Identity Formation
There is a complex relationship between and within identity and healing. Spirituality is an aspect of life that helps many individuals make sense of life, give meaning and purpose to life, bring connectedness to people and unifies presence within a person that affects other areas of health (Rowlings, 2008).

The concept of spiritual health is of increasing interest to health professionals. The World Health Organization Quality of Life measure in its assessment of what makes life worth living, measured mental, social and spiritual wellbeingas being at the top (Gehart, 2012; Hunt and Stein, 2012; Buckley-Walker, Crowe, Caputi, 2010).

Many people struggle when their spiritual life is not tended to.
